Alan has a Masters in Accounting, Marketing and Sales. He accepted Jesus at 25. “When I started understanding what Christ was all about, I prayed and a total peace came over me. I realized Jesus was the real deal.” Alan managed Walgreens stores for 25 years. He married but divorced after 4 years. In 2004, he quit work to care for his bedridden mother and father who had Alzheimer’s. Medical bills depleted his savings. His father got worse. Unable to care for both, he put his mother in a nursing home. When his father died, his siblings convinced their mother to give them Power of Attorney. “In my grief, I didn’t realize what was going on. They sold the house. I never knew what happened to the money. I was depressed and turned away from God.” With no job, home, or money, he came to the Mission. “I was scared and didn’t know what to expect. I had never been in that situation before. I had this emptiness in me, a deep, dark hole I could never fill up. I needed to get back to where I had been spiritually.” Alan joined The Discipleship and Training Program. “The Director and staff really reached out to me. I have no money, I’m living in a shelter, but I am content.”
